Just as Cannon and I were contemplating what to do with the four small (8”x8”) wood painting panels before us, Dad arrived with our inspiration – a big box of Dunkin Donuts! We scanned the variety filled box and Cannon excitedly pointed out his favorite, pink frosted with sprinkles! Homer Simpson's favorite.
While we munched on doughnuts I
contemplated how we could represent them. Ah-ha! Stencils!
First Cannon selected a color for the background covered the panels.Then we cut a round stencil. Cannon added some white to yellow ochre and came up with a color very close to the the color of the baked cake doughnut. Using the small white sponge paint roller we made a large round shape almost touching the edge of the paint panel for the basic doughnut shape.
Ah...frosting. Light Magenta and white made a perfect match for the pink frosting. Using a stencil cut with a around waving edge that fit into the doughnut shape, Cannon added the frosting.
But where was the doughnut hole? Using the rounded end of the small paint roller, dipped into background color, Cannon "stamped" the doughnut hole.
We used the same process on the second canvas to make a doughnut with white frosting. Sprinkles were added to both doughnuts by dipping the handle of a small brush into a variety of colors and randomly stamping the shape around the frosting.
Good enough to eat!
